Camp & Summit the Sacred Double Peaks of Nikko
Hiking Season: June – Early October
Take on the rugged forest trails of Mt. Nantai (2,486m) and Mt. Nyoho (2,466m), once walked by monks in pursuit of spiritual awakening.
This demanding two-day hike offers sweeping views of Nikko’s alpine lakes and forests—an ideal challenge for seasoned hikers seeking solitude, history, and elevation.
Beyond the famous Toshogu Shrine—the resting place of the Tokugawa shoguns—Nikko’s true spirit lives in its mountains.
It was here that the monk Shodo-shonin first ascended Mt. Nantai, laying the path for centuries of mountain ascetics to follow.
