Moto. H

Co-Founder and Head Guide/Mountaineer

Hey guys! I’m Motohiro, but everyone just calls me “Moto.” I grew up in Saitama Prefecture, Japan, and I have to admit, I wasn’t always a mountain person.

In 2009, I spent two weeks in Nepal and had the chance to see Manaslu, one of the highest peaks in the Himalayas. The view was breathtaking—sacred and unforgettable. That experience changed everything for me and set me on the path I’m on today.

In my 20s, I dedicated a lot of my time to trail running before transitioning to skiing. Toward the end of that decade, I traveled to New Zealand and worked for a local guiding company, Ultimate Hikes, for a season. During that time, I met people from all over the world, many of whom had visited Japan and raved about how incredible it is.

It wasn’t until then that I truly began to appreciate my own country. Their words gave me a new perspective.

After returning from New Zealand, I started guiding hikes in Japan and have been working with Fuji Mountain Guides ever since. In the winter, I focus on ski patrol. I’m currently based in Matsumoto City in Nagano Prefecture, a paradise for mountain enthusiasts. I love it here and want to show you that Japan is about more than just Mount Fuji—there are countless other beautiful and exciting mountains to explore.

There’s never enough time to experience it all, but if you want to spend your time in Japan’s mountains, we’d love to guide you! I truly believe that spending more time in nature, moving your body, breathing fresh air, and discovering new environments enriches your life in ways nothing else can.

Co-Founder & Travel Guide

Hey guys! I’m Josh, from the Gold Coast, Australia. Like most Aussies, my first trip experiencing Japan felt like stepping into a whole new world. The vibrant contrast between neon lights, Tokyo’s underground culture, and the country’s deep historical roots captivated me, and I quickly fell in love with it all.

My first major hike in Japan was Mount Tonodake — a tough but rewarding climb with breathtaking views of Mount Fuji. After that, I set my sights on Fuji itself. It took two attempts (the first cut short by bad weather), but reaching the summit was a dream come true (That’s me atop Fuji in the second image!!).

However, it wasn’t until I explored the Alpine Mountain ranges in Nagano that I truly discovered a side of Japan unlike any other. From that point on, returning to Tokyo was alot lower on my to-do list. Instead, I felt a deep pull to explore the quieter, lesser-known trails and mountains that are scattered across the country.

With Okojo Adventures, my goal is to provide a personal, authentic experience that goes beyond the typical tourist spots. Whether you’re here for a quick escape or seeking a deeper connection with nature, I’m excited to show you why the Japan Alps are truly unforgettable.
